Seaweed included in the group of algae. Algae consists of microalgae (phytoplankton) and macroalgae (seaweed). Microalgae can live in fresh and salt water, while seaweed living in the sea water only. There are about 380 species of seaweed in the waters of Malaysia. Habitat is coastal, rocky shores, mudflats, mangroves, coral reefs and sandy beaches.
